Our sugarcane products are a great environmental choice. During sugarcane processing the juice is extracted to make sugar and what remains is raw fibre called bagasse, which is used to create our products. Bagasse fibre is a byproduct from the process that would otherwise be discarded or burned.
The statistics compiled by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations report that global sugarcane production in 2007 exceeded 1,300 million metric tons. Therefore sugarcane fibre is not only readily renewable but abundant. It is a great alternative to cutting forests for fibre to make paper products or using non-renewable petroleum for the production of plastic and foam items.
By using sugarcane fibre products, we leave forests and the benefits they provide. Forests use carbon dioxide from the air and release oxygen for all animal life to breathe. Forests also act as a storage house for carbon dioxide, the greenhouse gas believed to contribute most to climate change. Trees also provide shade and act as wind blocks around dwellings that result in lower energy costs, offer food and habitat for wildlife, control soil erosion, have an aesthetic appeal, and present places for leisure activity that we all enjoy.
Our sugarcane products are non-toxic, 100% biodegradable, compostable and recyclable. They will decompose in a similar way and in the same time as other organic material like garden waste, and the remaining compost contains no toxic residue.
Sugarcane products come in a variety of product types; plates, bowls, trays, clamshell containers, as well as retail packs. They are strong and durable, soak proof, microwave and freezer safe, and are great for hot or cold items.
